ULEZ Exempt Motorcycles

To help improve air quality, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be in place in central London from 8 April 2019. Most vehicles including cars, vans and motorcycles will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily charge to travel within the area of the ULEZ.

ULEZ Zone 2019

From 25 October 2021, the ULEZ area will be expanded to include the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular Roads as below.

ULEZ London 2021

From the TFL Web-Site. The following information affects Motorcycle and Moped owners.

Motorcycles, mopeds and more

Motorcycles need to meet minimum emission standards when travelling in the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) or be subject to a charge.

Vehicles included are:

  • Motorcycles
  • Mopeds
  • Motorised tricycles
  • Quadricycles (L category)

Minimum emission standards

All vehicles will need to meet Euro 3 emissions standards. Euro 4 started January 2005 so any bikes purchased before that date will likely be Euro 3 and hence affected.

Any 2 stroke is likely to be affected (eg Vespa)

The ULEZ will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age - but generally speaking Euro 3 engines as those registered with the DVLA after July 2007.

Charges (if ULEZ standards not met)

  • Daily charge - ULEZ (Low): £12.50
  • Penalty charge: £160 (reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days)
Clearly electric mopeds and motorcycle will not be affected so check out our ranges and book a test ride or contact us to discuss your requirements.
